The GOP is sticking with this guy.
Such
horseshit.
A week after signaling that House Republicans would pursue an overhaul of immigration laws, Speaker John A. Boehner declared Thursday that his caucus is unlikely to move forward until President Obama gains their trust.
“There’s widespread doubt about whether this administration can be trusted to enforce our laws,” Boehner (R-Ohio) said during a midday news conference at the Capitol. “And it’s going to be difficult to move any immigration legislation until that changes.”
Obama has deported more people in five years than George W. Bush did in his eight years as president. If there's ONE issue that Republicans should give Obama the benefit of the doubt, it's this one, as he's shown little inclination to use his executive powers to mitigate the effects of our harsh immigration laws.
But of course, this has nothing to do with Obama, and everything to do with a xenophobic caucus and base that is dead set against any reform.
Thus, Republicans have bet that their shrinking base can carry them to electoral victory, rather than making a bona-fide effort to repair their rift with fast-growing Asian and Latino immigrant communities. And given traditional voting patters and gerrymandering, it may be enough in 2014!
But that's it. Republicans are doing what conservatives do: sticking with the past. As a result, the future belongs to someone else.
p.s.
Must read for those who think trust is the issue on immigration, here's the GOP rebuffing Pres Bush on the same issue
