Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
I'm writing this diary on Friday morning. We're getting ready to drive to Raleigh. There are three of us planning to ride together and stay overnight. I checked the website for Mountain Moral Monday, and it looks like they sold out five chartered buses to leave from Asheville early Saturday morning. That would seem to suggest that this is going to be a big event.
So some light packing and planning and food prep. And rain prep; there is rain in the forecast for Raleigh Saturday morning.
But I'm already getting that buzz, that warm feeling in the body. There is a deeply felt remembrance of, and connection with, this movement, these people that have gathered together in Raleigh before to stand for justice, to stand for their fellow citizens, these people who care. To be in their presence is a gift.
It is quiet and peaceful here in these mountains this Friday morning. It is a nice space within which to prepare for the trip; to sit with all that this trip represents.
Hoping the car makes it there and back, and that all goes as planned. But whether we make it there or not, this Moral March on Raleigh should be a pretty significant event.
