I just have to laugh at the notion of a Democrat challenging me. In THIS district? I've been here since 2004 and I kind of like it here. I don't think this Crawford guy doesn't understand that I got re-elected in 2012 with 68%. See if he can top that!
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry represents a red district in Nebraska, the 1st Congressional District, which has a PVI of R+10 per the Cook Political Report. Also, he was first elected in 2004 and just recently November 2012 was re-elected with 68% of the vote. Certainly this is not the kind of district that the DCCC is ideally targeting.
Nevertheless, Democratic Candidate Dennis Crawford is targeting the NE-01 anyway against all odds.
For any of you who live in NE-01 or nearby, on February 16 in Wahoo, Dennis Crawford will be meeting with Saunders County Democrats at 4 pm. Details of the event are below:

To get an understanding of why Dennis Crawford decided to run for Congress, the government shutdown was a contributing factor, as well as believing Rep. Fortenberry hasn't represented NE-01 effectively:

Spurred by the federal government shutdown and a threat of default of the nation's debt, Lincoln attorney Dennis Crawford said Monday he has decided to mount a 2014 Democratic challenge to Republican Rep. Jeff Fortenberry.
"The shutdown and default threat are hurting the people of the 1st Congressional District and hurting the economy," Crawford said.
Fortenberry, he said, "has lost touch with the district, is part of the problem" and needs to be replaced. The congressman was first elected in 2004.
News of Crawford's decision first surfaced on Facebook, then spread across online social media.
"I'm in, I'm taking the plunge," Crawford confirmed during a brief telephone interview.
Crawford also has a background which indicates his motivation for being a fighter for the middle class:

Crawford has practiced personal injury and workmen's compensation law in Lincoln since 1986. He is second associate chairperson of the Nebraska Democratic Party and has been the party's online voice.
Crawford said Fortenberry often sounds "like a moderate independent, but in fact, with rare exceptions, votes along with tea party Republicans" in the House.
"I want to be a fighter for the middle class, for seniors and for workers," Crawford said.
