Depression-era black and white photo of big crowd waiting in a soup line.
This is what the modern day GOP wants...
Did you know that the cause of the Great Recession was because the minimum wage was increased to $7.25 an hour in 2009? Even though the Great Recession started in 2007. I learned this by talking to one of my conservative friends. His reasoning is that a lower or non-existent minimum wage would have decreased unemployment and shortened the recovery from the recession.

Jesus H. Christ riding a vegetarian T-Rex, has everyone on the right lost their collective mind? Seriously, how stupid can these morons get? Say I am an engineer making $75,000 a year and I lose my job. Is taking a job that pays $10,000 a year going to make up for that lost income?

I am at a loss as to how to explain the absolute dumbing down of the American right wing. How can anyone with a high school education believe and regurgitate this crap? The middle class is dying, but the blame for the recession falls on a minimum wage that is too high? But not on greedy bankers who would have sold their own mothers for a buck? Not on CEOs who make more money in a year than most of us will earn in 20 lifetimes?

We have corporations rolling in profits, but refusing to hire new workers, refusing to raise the pay of the underpaid and overworked employees who survived the massive layoffs during the economic upheaval. But the blame for all of this lies at the feet of those who lost their jobs and have tried to hold out hope that they could take a job that would pay them a fraction of their value—only to find out that even those jobs were not available.

These same people refuse to raise the minimum wage because it will kill jobs—yet are all for a CEO earning millions upon millions in yearly compensation. I am pretty sure the giving the guy flippin’ burgers at McDonald’s a raise to $15.00 an hour will do more to improve the economy and job market than paying some CEO who has never worked a day in his life an extra million for laying off a thousand people to raise his company’s stock price a few cents.

I am tired of the stupid that comes out of the mouths of those on the right. Seriously how can these idiots even have a seat at the table? We are turning into the society featured in the movie Idiocracy because of them.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
