Daily Kos Radio's Kagro in the Morning show podcasts are now available through iTunes.

And we're now being broadcast live on We Act Radio, Washington, DC's WPWC 1480 AM! So if you're in the area, tune in on your actual radio. And if not, you can always find their live stream at WeActRadio.com.

Happy Presidentin' Day! Presidentin' is hard!

And so is punctuatin', so I've decided to just change the name of the day, instead.

Lots to catch up on, but lots happening to take the place of the things we haven't yet caught up on. Tom Perkins has decided to say something terrible, again. And other terrible people are licking his terrible boots for having said it, so we'll need to take that apart. Plus the lull in the Christie story has given reporters a chance to dig into the background of his relationship with David Wildstein. That can't be good.

For him, I mean. It's great for us. By which I mean people with radio shows.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I know I always seem to focus on our "real" Congress, but I just find it so much more interesting (and entertaining at times) than "House of Cards".  For instance, after Boehner gave his short press conference on the Debt Ceiling Bill (the one he only got 28 of his own Republican House members to vote for) he was heard singing the Disney song "What a Wonderful Day".

"Zippty-Do-Da Zippity-Aye, my oh my what a wonderful day..."
I have to admit, I started laughing uncontrollably.

Anyway, can you talk a little about the two Discharge Petitions that House Dems. will be soliciting signatures for next week: one being for the Minimum Wage Increase Bill; and the other for the Senate's Immigration Bill?

I know both are long shots.  We all know its one thing for moderate House Republicans to say they will vote for these bills if brought to the floor, but it is a far more difficult thing to get them to commit Party mutiny and sign a petition to actually bring these bills to the floor.  Nonetheless, I have to applaud House Dems. for finally going on offense and for doing it at the perfect time.  Why not strike House Republicans at the moment their Party is in most disarray and in open civil war with itself.  Also, you are catching many House Republicans at a time when they still have to worry about Tea Party type challengers signing on to run against them.

If Republican moderates from purple Districts who say they support these popular bills but refuse to sign on to bring them to the floor, they will appear disingenuous to the majority of district voters who support these bills, and merely puppets (or lemmings) of the Party who do not have the courage to take action on things they say they support.

Even if the Petitions fail, its still a smart move by Dems., don't you think?
