Tears stream down the face of Denise Hunt, 46, of Jacksonville as she finds out the jury is deadlocked on the first-degree murder charge during the trial of Michael Dunn in Jacksonville, Florida February 15, 2014. Protester weeps upon hearing that jury deadlocked on first-degree murder charge during trial of Michael Dunn.
Lovely:
[Michael Dunn, murderer, writing to his daughter:] ‘The jail is full of blacks and they ALL act like thugs. I think the legal system is scared of a backlash any time there is a white-on-black incident, but don't get excited when it's black on black or even black on white.

‘This may sound a bit radical but if more people would arm themselves and kill these *** idiots when they're threatening you, eventually they may take the hint and change their behavior.’

In another letter that was posted to a Facebook page set up by his daughter to drum up support and donations for her father, Dunn expresses how racist the blacks are in Jacksonville.
He also compares himself to George Zimmerman and says he had a stronger case than the former neighborhood watch volunteer.

Dunn wrote: ‘It's almost as if they're trying to hold me for as long as possible, because they know they have such a weak case against me and no chance of winning. Cory, my attorney, says I have a much stronger case of self-defense than Zimmerman does. He said that I should not worry if he loses, but it's a great sign if he wins.’

If by "stronger case" his lawyer meant "equally specious case", then sure. But perhaps that cocky arrogant confidence is the reason he reacted like this to the verdict:
As the jury's decisions became clear about 7 p.m. Saturday, Dunn looked ahead solemnly with a frown but no tears. His lawyer, Cory Strolla, told reporters later that his client was "in disbelief."

"Even as he sat next to me, he asked, how is this happening," Strolla said. "... It has not set in. I don't think it will set in anytime soon."

He kills an unarmed teenager, and he is in disbelief that he would get convicted of second-degree murder? He should be in disbelief that the jury mistrialed on the biggest charge—first-degree murder!

But why wouldn't he be in disbelief? He lives in a state that just let George Zimmerman walk. He lives in a fantasy world in which more people should assassinate brown and black Americans in order to "change their behavior" (i.e. listen to Lee Greenwood instead of Lil Wayne). Why, he should've gotten a medal!

Dunn will face a new trial on that final first degree murder charge. Maybe Florida will get it right this time.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
