Old NJ/NYC Saying, It Ain't Over, Till It's Over!

Status of NJ/NYC-spectra natural gas pipeline? Being decided by Federal Appeals Court.
(This case was heard today, Wed 2/19/14. I don't know how long it will take the Court reach a decision.)

Note To Federal Appellate Court Judges

Dear Judges,

What to do about the spectra high-pressure gas pipeline? Shut It down.

Please decide, in favor of Jersey City and the environmental groups, No Gas Pipeline, Sierra Club, And Food & Water Watch, who are opposing this spectra energy pipeline.

Say No, to spectra energy corporation.

spectra energy has a poor safety record, with a history of accidents.

This spectra pipeline is a highly pressurized transportation gas pipeline and expected to pump 800 million cubic feet of gas a day!

Natural gas pipelines are prone to a high risk of leaks that are released as either fine mists of toxic spray or result in fires and explosions that may do significant damage to property and life.

This spectra pipeline is dangerous! What more is there to say?

It's a simple decision. The spectra pipeline poses an imminent danger, to the safety of millions of people vs big energy who are out to make a profit. Losing this case is a business tax write-off for spectra, I'm sure. (*That's one reason spectra, continued to build even though they knew the court challenge could stop them).

spectra knew, there was a lawsuit to stop their building this pipeline. By continuing to build, it makes spectra energy culpable.

It's too late to contact the Court. The time for public comments is over, but we can still flood Governor Christie with messages.

Let the politicians know; that we don't want any fracked gas, or the transportation pipelines that carry it, in New Jersey, New York, or anywhere!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

may I make a small observation?  If you relabeled your title to indicate that this is about 'saying no to spectra pipeline', I think you would get a lot more traffic.  And would thereby get out a very important message.  Your 'ain't over' could very well be assumed in the diary.

I just clicked on this diary bec. I know you write re. NJ.

It ain't over, till it's over!

I read that oral arguments are kept at about 15 minutes, so I broke it down to the most relevant facts.

Besides all the other reasons that this spectra pipeline is bad for New Jersey and New York City.

The Most important reason is; this type of pipeline, is very explosion and leak prone and just plain dangerous! Also, despite all their talk about safety, spectra energy has a very poor safety record.

♥Thank you Anna and all the Kossacks who left very informative comments in these spectra diaries.

You have all helped me so much and often inspired me. I use all your suggestions. Kossacks are so smart. I Love Kossacks♥

is not yet going to do it, so what is the alternative? About 57% of the current heating needs of NYC are met with natural gas and that number will probably rise as the city's mandated phaseout of the use of No.4 and No. 6 fuel oil continues. There is certainly the market and need for someone to build a high capacity/high pressure NGL into the city in order to replace the current aging and undercapacitied infrastructure. Also, the interconnects of the current pipelines will probably face diminished or even negative flow patterns as the availability and demand areas shift due to the coming production of Marcellas shale fields. That is happening whether we want it or not. There are already delivery bottlenecks in getting natural gas into the NYC areas as evidenced by the high delivery costs for doing so.

No one wants to have a big NGL in their back yard (or a freeway or a rail line or an airport or a wind turbine farm or a high voltage power line or a power plant or a prison or a.....), but they are necessary for life and they have to go somewhere. NIMBY always reigns supreme, but in this case I don't see the alternatives. Some say it just isn't needed, but I'm afraid I just don't agree with them. The need is there. Hey, many agree with Christie that the additional tunnel just isn't worth the cost, danger and disruption - there's another NIMBY for you...

But do you live near this pipeline? Or any, high pressure natural gas transportation pipeline?
