Good evening, Kibitzers! Last year, I was honored to attend the first TexKos statewide gathering, at the invitation of my friend nomandates. It was held in Austin the first weekend in March, which by very good luck (or, much more likely, skill on the part of the organizers) is also the time of the annual Zilker Kite Festival. (You should check out the link, because the little kites are fun to roll your mouse over.)
The festival has been held annually in Austin since 1929 (this will be the 86th year). In 1936, it moved to Zilker Park, a 350-acre public park with plenty of open space and few kite-eating trees, where it remains today. This year's festival will be on Sunday, March 2. The park will be packed with thousands of people flying hundreds of kites, and enjoying food trucks, contests, and all kinds of entertainment. If you go, I urge you to bring sunscreen!
Below the orange tangle of kite string are some photos I snapped last year, and following those, a few I stole from the internet of particularly impressive kites that have appeared at past festivals.
It gets pretty crowded, but it's still fun!
Alas, the kite-eating tree!
Here are some pictures I did not take:

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
