Addie Eckhardt, who had been a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since 1995, has filed to challenge incumbent Sen. Richard Colburn.
Both are Republicans from Dist. 37 on the Eastern Shore. Colburn has had some trouble in recent years with ethics questions and with a divorce filing that alleged an affair with a legislative aide.
With about 36 hours to go before the filing deadline, there is no Democrat running for the seat. Cheryl Everman, who had filed to oppose Colburn in the general election, dropped her bid some months ago.
That still leaves four Republicans contending for the District 37B House seat Eckhardt has left. One Democrat has filed.
