The day before the wedding, my little family.
I have been a part of the Dkos community since the Dean-Clark wars. I am reaching out today because things have become unmanageable. I am the step-mom to a 5 year old little girl. She is the light of my life.

My little one told my husband and myself that her mommy's boyfriend physically hurt her. There was no physical evidence, but her behaviors told us that there was something wrong. Her mom has a problem with meth and she has been diagnosed as Borderline and Bipolar with psychotic features. Her mom also has parents that will bail her out of anything. They have more money than god.

My husband and I have done out best to protect kiddo. Her Mom has decided that being with a felon with a history of Domestic Violence is the best thing for kiddo. My little one showed my husband and I how mommy's boyfriend hurt her. We need to get an emergency petition for custody put in with the neighboring state where the Mom lives. We need a lawyer. My husband and I both work, but we live month to month. We are in an awful situation. We make too much for legal aid, but not enough to get a lawyer.

If we can't get a lawyer, we may lost kiddo as we fight to protect her. I need help. My family needs help.

 Help me protect my kid

We went to DFS, and they couldn't help because Mom lives in a neighboring state. Both our state and the neighboring state are saying "Not it." Our kiddo's safety is on the line. I don't know how to get the retainer for a lawyer that works both here and in Mom's state. I am so lost because I need to protect little one.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
