More insanity from my favorite Tea Party U.S. Senate candidate of this election cycle:

Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., a Republican U.S. Senate candidate, asserted over the weekend that the United States shouldn’t support Israel just for political reasons, but because God will curse America if we don’t.
Speaking at a GOP primary debate in Gainesville on Sunday, Broun told told attendees and members of the Gall County Republican Party that the United States must maintain its strong ties to Israel because in the Bible, God promised Abraham that He would curse Abraham's enemies.
“It’s absolutely imperative that we support Israel -- our brothers and sisters in the Middle East -- not only because of the geopolitical reasons there, which are strong enough in themselves, but because of a promise God made to Abraham,” Broun said, citing Genesis 12:3. “He said, ‘I’ll bless those that bless you and I’ll curse those who curse you.’ America must support Israel to continue to be blessed.” - International Business Times, 2/24/14
And that's not the only crazy shit to come out of Broun's mouth at the debate:

“I am a proven conservative, consistent constitutionalist,” he said. “There are four C’s that describe who I am and what drives me: Consistent, conservative, constitutionalist, Christian.”
Broun explained that he judged legislation based on four factors. Firstly, he won’t vote for legislation that is unconstitutional.
“The second, does it fit the Judeo-Christian biblical principles our country was founded upon?” he continued.
Broun also promised to vote against legislation that the country didn’t need and couldn’t afford. - Raw Story, 2/24/14
Yep, this is what you have to do to win the Republican nominee these days. Grant it, Broun's favorite punching bag is turning out to be a bigger hypocrite:

As Jack Kingston runs for Senate in Georgia, the veteran Republican congressman has needled his GOP primary opponents over the issue of taxpayer-funded health insurance subsides.
"Jack," his campaign wrote in a memo last fall, "is the only candidate in this race that has voted to eliminate taxpayer-funded insurance subsidies for Members of Congress and their staffs."
But what the memo didn't mention—and what Kingston doesn't talk about on the trail—is that Georgia taxpayers are footing as much as 75 percent of the bill for his own health insurance. That's because Kingston, 58, receives health coverage through a plush package that has allowed him access to a lifetime of subsidized health benefits due to his past service in the Georgia statehouse.
Former state legislators pay "approximately 25 percent of the cost" of their health insurance, said Pamela Keene, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Community Health.
"The rest is paid by the state," she said.
Former legislators are eligible after eight years of service, Keene said. Kingston meets that minimum; he was in office from 1985 to 1993.
Kingston has received this state-supported health insurance for more than two decades, since the month he joined the Congress in January 1993, according to financial disclosure forms he has filed with the House. - National Journal, 2/20/14
And Broun's other top opponent isn't really doing a stellar job at winning his party's nominee:

The image above is a mailing that arrived Wednesday at an AJC reporter’s house in U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey’s district. The Marietta Republican’s message is rather clear on the subject of immigration: “Secure Our Borders. Enforce Current Law. No Amnesty.”
But squint and cock your head just so to look at the bottom half: “Public document – official business. This document was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.”
We’ve spent a lot of time in the heated U.S. Senate race talking about the perils of incumbency, but here’s an upside for the three sitting congressmen: The chance to advertise your views on hot-button issues to your constituents and have the taxpayers foot the bill, in the form of Congress’ franking privilege.
Gingrey does not mention the U.S. Senate, his opponents or even the date for people to get out and vote for him – May 20. That would run afoul of the law.
But he’s free to send you a photo of himself surveying the Mexican border and ask your opinion on securing said border. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/20/14
I really would not be surprised if Broun won his primary and that would be a real treat for Team Blue. And Michelle Nunn (D. GA) is getting the backing she needs to take on a kook like Broun in the general election:

“Georgians Together” is a 527 formed under the name of Keith Mason, former chief of staff to Gov. Zell Miller. It will be used exclusively to support the candidacy of Michelle Nunn, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, Mason said this morning.
The group will be able to raise cash in unlimited amounts, but is barred from coordination with the Nunn campaign.
“It’s one that can support her record of service and solutions first, and partnership over partisanship,” said Mason, a partner at McKenna Long & Aldridge in Atlanta.
Mason said his connections with the Nunn family go back to his childhood. While at the University of Georgia, he headed up the youth section in one of U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn’s re-election campaigns. For several years, he was on the board of Hands On Atlanta, a volunteer group headed up by Michelle Nunn. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/24/14
If you would like to donate or get involved with Nunn's campaign, you can do so here:
