Former President Bill Clinton is campaigning in Kentucky
today for Democratic Senate candidate Allison Lundergan Grimes in her bid to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, the state's junior senator, isn't too happy about it.
Speaking to NBC's Kasie Hunt ahead of Clinton's visit, Paul said:
You know, it concerns me.
And why does it "concern" this professional troll?
The thing is, I think workplace violence is a serious thing.
Yes, I remember Paul saying the same exact thing when he explained his support for expanding background checks on assault weapons purchases.
Not. Anyway:
If the president of your network had relations with a 20 year-old girl who was there from college, I think the president of your network would be fired.
Actually, I doubt his hypothetical conjecture is correct, but now you see where this is going, though I'm sure there never was any doubt in your mind. It's more Clinton Derangement Syndrome from Rand:
If that's what Bill Clinton did multiple times, really they ought to be concerned about being associated with him.
Okay, nobody defends what President Clinton did. Not even Clinton himself. It was wrong. But it's also old news that has been rehashed to death. Everybody's made up their minds about it. After twenty years, it's time to move on.
Maybe that explains why Paul feels compelled to embellish facts, saying that Lewinsky was a girl when she was a woman, claiming that she was a college student when she was a college graduate, and suggesting that Clinton had "multiple" similar affairs without providing any evidence.
But no matter how much Paul enhances the story, this central fact will remain: He's talking about something that's completely irrelevant to the daily lives of men and women in Kentucky and around the country.
Meanwhile, the most relevant thing about the Clinton years is this: The economy was pretty good and things were headed in the right direction. That's why Republicans like Rand Paul don't want Democrats to be seen in public with Bill Clinton. And that's why smart Democrats like Allison Lundergan Grimes aren't going to listen to trolls like Rand Paul.
