Quilt for irishwitch and her husband -- it just shipped!
Our friend, hopeful, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is having surgery on March 3. As she wrote:
Here's an update: the tumor is estrogen positive, so that is some good news. All other receptors are negative. I had an MRI and there is a bigger mass than they could see before. They recommend total mastectomy. And, they found another tumor (very, very small one) on the right as well.
So, one total mastectomy and lumpectomy or two totals?
This is a lot to weigh on anyone -- and we would like hopeful to have her quilt as quickly as possible. But we're still short on messages and funding. Please help!
We are short 14 messages and $56 for this quilt.
The Packhorse/irishwitch quilt showing the backing
What is a community quilt? It is a quilt that contains loving messages from you transcribed by me in archival ink on muslin. Those words, combined with colorful fabrics, will give hopeful a lift anytime she needs one. She'll be able to rest under this blanket of love and cry into it if she needs to. It will be a wonderful gift from the community and it will see her through to health...

It takes time and material to make one of these quilts and it is a living for me and my sister. If you would like to donate toward the cost of hopeful's quilt, here is a PayPal link - or message me for an address if you prefer a check. $15/message is suggested but some kindly give more to cover for those who cannot afford to donate but who have lovely messages to give. Your message is welcome whether you can give or not.

Need inspiration? Here are some of hopeful's messages:
Love and healing strength to you as the golden threads weave a warm hug for you! Vetwife
Wrap up tight in the warmth of this quilt, and draw from it the strength you need to do much more good for others, just as a few of us have done for you. May that diagnosis become a footnote in your biography, while the good you do becomes what you are known for. llbear
hopeful, As this quilt warms your body, may our love warm your soul. NormAl1792
Each thread of this quilt is a thread of community.
Each stitch is a stitch of love.
Together, they will take you through times of strength, times of joy, and times of need.
Love, your Daily Kos community, and your quilt will support you through anything. Kitsap River and Charles CurtisStanley
