KosAbility is a community diary series posted at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT every Sunday by volunteer diarists. This is a gathering place for people who are living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues surrounding this topic. Our use of "disability" includes temporary as well as permanent conditions, and small, gnawing problems as well as big, life-threatening ones. Our use of "love someone" extends to beloved members of other species.
Our discussion threads are open threads in the context of this community. Please feel free to comment on the diary topic and ask questions of the diarist, and also to ask general questions about disabilities, share something you've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about the unfairness of your situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered. If you are interested in contributing a diary, contact series coordinator postmodernista.

I know that we promised you all a specific diary tonight and an open thread next Sunday, but the plan has changed and we actually have relevant reasons for doing so.
One of those reasons is that our diarist for tonight, while having his diary ready, has had some fresh insights that will improve that diary, and we would rather not rush him as he crafts his piece. We're a group that appreciates fine writing and clarity, are we not?
Another is that our member mettle fatigue has been doing some fantastic research, outreach, and coordination this week, and is the perfect night for everyone to have a conversation about where we're going with KosAbility. Due to mettle fatigue's much appreciated efforts, we've seen a spike in membership, diary commitments, and some alternative structures for diaries, as well as some cross-group communications with other Kos communities with similar interests.
Current schedule:
March 9 - recoveringConservative writing Part 2, with a link to Part 1 published Feb 19, about his family's experiences with his daughter's mental illness.
March 16 - scribblingTiresias, on autism biomedical treatments: "I was subjected to them as a kid and they're not pleasant."
March 23 - postmodernista & mettle fatigue working title: "Two Articles from the Patient Safety Movement & a Personal 'Case Study'."
March 30 - michelewln will be sharing her insights and experiences as a full-time caregiver to a disabled brother
April 7 - OPEN THREAD NIGHT
Diaries can be one paragraph, or two, or twenty. Whatever matters to you matters to all of us.
We also republish many diaries on similar concerns that are originated at other groups, because we are all on the same team. Many of our members are also in other DK health groups. Feel free to invite friends to join our discussions, and let us know what day and time your other groups meet, so all diaries in all groups get as many readers as possible.
See you Sunday, 4pm pacific time, 7pm eastcoast time, and all the timezones inbetween.
So the floor is open....please share with us your thoughts on KA content, structure, updates, or any other news you see fit. Welcome members, both prior and new.
