We come to this weekly gathering for lots of different reasons... from lots of different faith traditions (or none)... to share our needs, petitions, wants, wishes, wounds...
We also come here in thanksgiving... to share progress and good news.
Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.
We come here basically to share the weight of our daily lives and joy of those lives as well.
I woke this morning with this song in my head:
Come to me,
All who labor and are heavy burdened,
And I shall give you rest.
Take up my yoke and learn from me,
For I am meek and humble of heart.
And you'll find rest for your souls.
Yes, my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
~ "Come to Me", Weston Priory/Gregory Norbet
As luck would have it, this song was the offertory hymn today. Or maybe it wasn't luck. I believe that all things happen for a real reason... even if we do not understand the reason at all.
The truth is... I am a worrier. I come by this honestly-- both my grandmother and mother made lifetimes of taking on all the world's burdens. I am working on ending this family tradition. We are not meant to worry all the time. We are social creatures by design...we can share our worries and woes with each other and lighten each others' loads. Sometimes the sharing is all that is needed to ease the worry. Verbalizing the concern makes it less dense on the mind.
There is much to worry about in the world right now, on a global scale... in this country... in individual communities... in particular families... and in any one important human life.
Let's lay some of that burden down here...
Peace,
Dee
