The stunning and historic La Bajada Mesa (located between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM) has been central to the area’s environmental and cultural landscape for centuries, and an inspiration to artists, writers, poets and photographers.
This special place is now under threat of strip mining by a firm that proposed to haul hundreds of thousands of gallons of POTABLE water from the County water utilities to control dust at the mine site.
In the midst of record setting drought and restrictions on residential water use, this kind of wanton waste of our most precious resource for unneeded gravel is utterly unconscionable.
Please help us wake County officials up to the absurdity of this proposal by signing the petition at http://petitions.moveon.org/... The petition is already 1,100 strong -- with your help we can bring an overwhelming show of opposition to bear on the application.
