I see it.
I see how it goes,
I see how it will go,
I see how it won't go,
how it will slow,
how it will stop.
I see it.

The keypad is mightier than the sword
We go to the store,
and we buy our
eggs, milk, butter,
and cheese;
chicken, pork chops,
and beef brisket.
Honey nut Cheerios,
and Frosted Flakes.
Two small cans
of cream of mushroom soup.
Five pounds of potatoes,
tomatoes,
lettuce,
celery,
onion.
Canned chicken breast,
canned tuna.
Dog food,
cat food,
cat litter.
Lays potato chips,
and
Fritos,
Cheetos,
and
Doritos.
A case of bottled water,
and a case of canned pop.
The store management
compares this week's sales
with the same week last year;
they want the young couples
to have four children,
to increase sales.
Those small children
look up at the world.
What will they do,
when they reach 45,
and the supermarkets
in those days
dole out rations,
only so much per person per week?
They will dream grim dreams
of nuclear powered tractors,
taking up the slack.
But the dreams will be grim,
since no one will build them,
not enough.
Too little, too late,
as the apocalypse looms.
Build a chicken coop,
and you might survive.
