Received this e-mail today from Senator Al Franken (D. MN):
Math is hard. But you don’t have to be a mathematician to know that you can’t raise a family on less than $16,000 a year.
Unfortunately, that’s life for the nearly 100,000 Minnesotans who work for minimum wage.
The minimum wage is designed to ensure that no American walks away from a hard day's work without a fair day's pay. But the buying power of the minimum wage has diminished over time. We need to take action right now.
That’s why I’m asking you to sign our petition telling Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.

If you’re working 40 hours a week at a restaurant in Minneapolis, you should be able to afford life’s basic necessities. The same goes for personal care attendants in Walla Walla, sales clerks in Tulsa, and farmhands in Ames.
In St. Paul, Governor Dayton and DFL leaders are working to raise the state’s minimum wage, too. This is a nationwide movement, and I’m proud to be a part of it -- and I bet you want to be part of it too.
Tell Congress you support raising the federal minimum wage. Sign the petition right now.

Thank you for all your help.
