I'm talking about Jim DeMint of course who's the subject of an analysis piece by that title in Politico Magazine which came out today in connection with his book tour for Falling in Love with America Again.
It (the piece and not the book) lays out the standard centerist Villager narrative that the problem is that we don't have enough of these "TipnRonnie" kumbayah moments anymore.
I say that only matters if you're expecting an invitation to a soiree at Sally Quinn's Georgetown manse sometime soon.
The first flaw with this is that Ronald Reagan was a traitor who sold arms to an enemy nation-state so he could finance his own Congressionally prohibited death squads in a war that he lost anyway. He should have been impeached and locked up and remembered as a slightly lower life form than Benedict Arnold who at least saved his country at Saratoga and was ill used by Congress so he had an excuse.
Tip O'Neill wasn't much better and sold out Social Security and the Great Society for a bunch of obvious lies.
The second problem is you can't compromise with Republicans. They're all a bunch of whores and wack jobs except for the ones that are BOTH whores AND wack jobs.
Anyway in a splendid display of party unity the whores are blaming the wack jobs for their recent lack of electoral success and evidently Jim's influence is on the decline except the next time they want to shut down the government or default on the national debt.
Personally I think they've got it all wrong. DeMint is just as big a whore as they are except he's ALSO a wack job.
If you still have a TV left after the Moment of Zen (and I'll admit the LED models don't give the satisfying pop of the older CRTs when you throw heavy objects at them), Stephen will be having Jaron Lanier who's this dreadlocked pan-flute playing hippie type.
Or at least that's what he would have you believe, he works for Microsoft and that makes me highly suspicious.
Anyway, he's the guy who invented those dorky looking Virtual Reality goggles and gloves that don't just scream nerd, they scream '80s nerd.
This is one time when I wish Stephen would concentrate on the musical performance (even shudder pan-flute) but instead I suspect they'll mostly talk about Jaron's most recent book Who Owns the Future?.
Now perhaps a more charitable fan would like to write a hagiography of Rachel Maddow for tomorrow, if left to my own devices you'll no doubt get something in my usual style.
