Today in West Virginia folks are rising up to fill the capitol and observe our state legislature vote for a crappy watered down (pun intended) bill to address chemical leaks and their aftermath. The
Chemical Spill Bill is filled with the fingerprints of industry. One problem is there is no long term health monitoring for people exposed to this chemical in the water in the bill. For more on citizenry rising up in West Virginia, follow below the "
yellow boy" squiggle.
Today Meteor Blades noted that citizens are using social media here in WV to share information and access to water. On Saturday morning, I posted this diary which many were kind enough to recommend on The Friends of Water vs the Friends of Coal.
The state legislature is struggling to stop caving in the money interests of coal and chemicals. Somehow we can have business in this state unless we destroy the environment.
But people are waking up and finding out that small business and families are taking it in the teeth while big extraction industries keep doing what they always do- extract the coal, extract the money and leave the state to clean up their mess.
