5:00 EST this 5th day of March, 2014 on THE ED SHOW.

Ed started out on the fence and maybe slightly in favor, maybe leaning because of Governor Schweitzer and Bakken, but he made a herculean stab at getting the info and now he is dead against KXL.

Video to follow when it is put up.

5:20: of course a commercial FOR the pipeline appears in the break........

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Ed was more than a little in favor of KXL (8+ / 0-)

He was more or less a cheerleader for it.

Ed isn't always the serious researcher he probably should be.  Since his heart is in the right place, however, when he does do that due diligence, he can usually be trusted to come to the right conclusion.

    •  I was stunned when he went off on Josh Fox (5+ / 0-)

then Joe Romm back on Feb 5th: Ed was pissed!

It didn't make any sense that he was so against the "environmentalists" (sneer) and kept talking up energy independence.  When he had pro-resource extraction former Gov Schweitzer (now chairman of Stillwater Mining) on his tv and radio show every day the rest of the week I really wondered if the fix was in.

      Whew.

and pipefitters want this pipeline.  I really dont think it is any more complicated than that.
To come out against the project is a major surprise.

Granted, with the money and all. But I can easily imagine efforts to restore the everglades, The Chesapeake Bay, prairie lands, forests... would be a good economic stimulant as well as providing opening for union jobs.

I thought Ed was strongly in favor of KXL.  Didn't he argue that it would save us from disasters when oil trains derail?

I'm with those who think Ed was more than just a little supportive of the Keystone Pipeline. I thought he was more like a major promoter. So I can't help but be a little stunned by this reversal.

And kind of off topic but my wife asked my last night who I was yelling at on the phone last night. It was an automated survey that couldn't take no for an answer when I said I opposed the pipeline. It was just kind of fun.

a fair amount of yelling occurred before I realized I was talking to a recording! which couldn't handle my verbose answers, didn't want anything but yes or no! I was so mad I was yelling my no, no, no eventually and apparently my volume also bolixed the computer! finally got clear through their script tho!

  •  I haven't listened to him since early Feb... (0+ / 0-)

...when he had a man from the Sierra Club and Gov Sweitzer on and he was clueless and rude to his audience and I just said "fuck you, Ed Schultz" and havent turned him on since.

It was especially galling that he was utterly uninformed about the differences and special problems inherent in the substance, he spoke as if he thought the stuff was the same as other types of petroleum crude oil, though at least he admitted he hadn't been aware of the differences.

Still plan on buying some Bio-Green Clean tho...

pro pipeline stance so that a serious talk show response/discussion would occur for at least a few weeks?  There was a lot of good discussion that came out of his shows from those that were anti pipeline, and that had merit.

The guy isn't paid big bucks for nothing: He's one very smart  radio and television host, and knows how to get, and keep ratings.  I personally never took him serious for a minute.  His "fake" argument, and outrage about security due to the rail versus pipeline transportation issue was pretty silly to me.

  •  Ed's one of the better showmen on the left (0+ / 0-)

and I usually enjoy his stuff. He makes large and loud noises and does these big emotional things that are just great. If Ed ever wanted to sell used cars he could make an even greater fortune.

I'm glad we've got him but I always worry he might see the big bucks the other guys make and get tempted.
