Rep. Ralph Hall (R-TX)
Texas Republican Rep. Ralph Hall
has a plan in the event he doesn't win his runoff election:
"If not, I'll go work at Wal-Mart. I've got to have a job."
Ha ha ha ha! Funny, right? A guy's gotta make a living, not like a 90-year-old who wants to stay active can just volunteer at his local soup kitchen or anything. No, a man needs a job.
Hall, aged 90, has been in the House since 1981; he should be eligible for a pension of more than $80,000 a year. That's more than three times what a Washington, DC, Walmart worker would have earned if the city had passed a $12.50 living wage requirement for workers at big box stores. But Walmart had a temper tantrum over the idea of $12.50 wages and threatened to back out of building stores in the District, and the mayor vetoed the bill.
Of course, maybe he's suggesting he'd be open to a job as a Walmart lobbyist. That probably pays more than a House pension.
