I had no intention of writing today. A broken arm slows your writing down.Yesterday,
a diarist wrote about not wanting his sons in the military.I could tell he had no clue
about some of what he said about killing.Still,we all have a right to an opinion. I feel the
NEXT war should be declared by Congress.I then would want a draft. Today,a tiny percentage of Americans are involved in Afghanistan. This war would have ended long ago if all our young were involved.Bush and his gang are War criminals sending young
people to die thinking the people behind 9-11 were in Iraq.It was a lie,and our leaders
knew it. We should have killed or taken Osama and crew and come home.

This morning I read a diary about a man who spit in the face of a Doctor to stay out of
Vietnam. We were  there on a lie, and over sixty thousand of our brothers and sisters died there.

I went to Vietnam as a medic thinking I could help keep our guys alive. It didn't matter
to me about the politics,I just wanted to help our soldiers.I did help some of our soldiers.I felt saving ONEof our own from death was worth the sacrifice.

I was able to be involved with the health of the poor who lived in villages.I HAVE Parkinson"s from Agent Orange,so I am aware of what that poison did to the people there and to folks like me now.

We should have let North Vietnam take the South over. The poor are probably better off now.I still remember an old lady offering me sex, I thought she was ugly with her black
teeth, anyone in Vietnam knows what I am talking about. The old ugly lady was offering
me her daughter to have sex with, that little girl may have been 9 or 10 years old.How sick.

Many Vietnamese tried to flee there when we left. Many Vietnamese live here because they helped us. Many drowned trying to flee. We never lost a battle there but we lost
the war.Now Vietnam and America are best friends.

If some of your neighbors are being drafted,You go to help them. Our leaders will always pick our wars. Maybe someday we as citizens can find away to stop that.

A man helps his brother in need,I didn't carry a gun,I carried medical supplies.Those
supplies helped some come home.

Spitting in a mans face to keep from getting shot is nothing to be proud of.I would be
embarrased.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

how is going half way around the world in order to kill your brothers ( or are your brothers only found within some imaginary set of lines?), who have done nothing to you, helpful in anyway.

I salute your service as a medic, it takes a  a certain breed to be so selfless, but the fact is we didnt send 500,000 medics to that war.

I find it amazing people will follow such stupid orders.  Some stranger in a suit tell you to go half way around the world to kill some people who have done nothing to you, and you say YES?

... is not a matter of intelligence, unless one has the opportunity to become better informed on a matter as important as the United States sending our service members overseas to needlessly die in counter-productive wars that undermine our national security ...

... but in any event, the reason that he spat in that shrink's face, is because we had a draft, as you propose we reinstate. Without a draft, he could have simply declined to volunteer to go overseas and kill people who were no threat to the US homeland.

Would you have done the same thing? You missed my point
of the diary. I  spent two years in Vietnam, and never met
ONE person in favor of our being there,I was and stgainst
          that war.
I AM IN FAVOR OF A DRAFT ONLY IF OUR NATION GOES TO
ANOTHER WAR. There would be far fewer wars if every one
of a certain age had to fight.
You dont spit in a persons face  by peopleto make your point.
Maybe he would have tried to help his brothers who were
there. Iwas spit on by folks like you when I came home.

The shrink is a voluntary participant in the process of drafting young men to go overseas to kill people.

Also, spit wipes off, while once a baby has been killed in a war, that life is gone forever.

If the draft had been in place in 2003, there's very little way that Bush would have gone to war in Iraq.  Too many "regular" people's sons would have been called up.

and your nation is at war, and you are ordered to go you have two choices, to go or be sent to prison.

Soldiers, even generals, don't make decisions on when and where we go to war. Those decisions are made by politicians and we don't give individual soldiers an independent veto.

Thank you for your service and your opinion. Maybe if all had to fight (draft) there would be fewer wars, but I think that the rich will always be able to skip it, either with being sent to Canada (Clinton), or France as a Missionary (Mittens) or a cushy state side position (GWB). I wish that the people who start the wars would have to fight themselves and send every person in their family to war. Maybe then we would have fewer. I know that is not possible, but still a pipe dream of mine.
Than you again for your service to our country, our service members and my children.

I think there was a diary last week about some super viruses that are coming back to life after having been frozen in the permafrost...Antarctica, I think. Anyway it would be very easy for the rich to barricade themselves off to have the clean water, good food, etc. I think they are hoping for it in all honesty. I have to wonder though, if they kill off all the women, children, brown and other folks...who exactly will wash their clothes and toilets? I don't think they think things through completely...

The only soldiers I demonstrated against were those who committed atrocities. Other than that it struck me, even as an 18-year-old, as unseemly that we would be blaming soldiers for our foreign policy mistakes, particularly given that much of the military had been drafted and really had no choice other than to do what they were told to do.

Our world is now so small and its population so interconnected that waging war is, in effect, a self-destructive act. But that is the fault of governments, not of those who serve.
