My background is as a union organizer, although I'm doing something different right now. I have been a Democrat for a long time, and fairly active much of that time.
I am here because I figure this is the best place to find out when (or if) the Democratic party decides to change course and advocate for working people instead of against them. That's basically all I'm here for. I check every day.
Right now the main business of the Democratic party appears to be selling defective insurance on behalf of private companies and otherwise funneling money to Wall Street. Their sidelines are spying on everybody as much as possible, persecuting whistleblowers, deporting Latin Americans, murdering east Africans and south Asians, and defending war criminals and torturers from investigation and prosecution. I don't support any of that.
Two percent less evil than the Republicans, with the Republicans getting more evil all time, is both a bad place to be and a bad direction to be going. I won't support that anymore either.
And I'm done being upset about it, because my being upset didn't change anything, it just made me more vulnerable to the kabuki and the scare tactics. I don't get upset about bullying STFU diaries at this point because they serve a useful purpose. Their prevalence and popularity help me determine quickly and easily that the Democratic party is not changing course. That means I can go do something else with my time.
I think the Democratic party is in serious trouble. I think the trouble is so serious that the demographics kos talks about aren't going to work out the way he thinks. Maybe I'm wrong and there are a ton of people just waiting to support the two percent less evil platform. If so, go get campaign donations (and votes) from them, not me.
I'll check back regularly to see if something changes. Meanwhile, good luck with that two percent less evil thing and let me know how it works out.
I've said what I have to say, so I won't hang around and argue in the comments.
