I don't know why I didn't see it so plainly before, but our own Joan McCarter really got my attention today with this:
The Kochs provide the perfect proxy for the 1 percent. They've made themselves that proxy by spending millions and millions to advance a policy agenda that benefits them and only them. This helps Democrats make the 2014 election be about the economy and jobs and basic fairness.
I used to be concerned about how outside money from large contributors could obstruct a state's abilities to honestly air and discuss that state's issues. The amount of money swamping the system since Citizens United has made my former concerns trivial. The Koch brothers represent all that is wrong with money in politics.
But maybe there is still something we can do about it, at least a little about it...
The Greg Sargent article Joan links to is also worth reading for more elaboration of this strategy.
If the narrative works in Louisiana, why not Illinois, my own home state?
If it works in two states, why not more?
How many states do Koch brothers do business in?
How many people in those states get screwed over in one way or another by the unethical and irresponsible actions of the Kochs?
In Illinois, I still have some expectation for a good outcome but the point still remains that the Koch owned company did what they did because they knew they could get away with it and didn't care about the health of the people living near their facility. They are all full of cooperative sounding noises now but no action (yet) and no remorse for the harm they still inflict on others.
So, what state are you in and what local subsidiary of the Koch industrial empire is making life tougher for you and your neighbors? Which politicians have they bought in your state via contributions from Koch Industries, Americans For Prosperity or other linked organizations?
This is an invitation to share the info to other Kossacks in your area...
