Rick Weiland (D. SD) scored a big endorsement in his bid for U.S. Senate:
Remember Mike Rounds, the former governor of South Dakota?

When the state legislature passed a law banning all medical abortions except those necessary to save the mother's life, it was Governor Rounds who signed it into law. Voters rejected the law, overturning it by referendum on Election Day, but those voters still re-elected Mike Rounds to Governor at the same time.

Now Democrat Tim Johnson is retiring from the U.S. Senate and former Governor Rounds is running to replace him. Fortunately, South Dakota voters have a much better choice in Democrat Rick Weiland.

Rick is a populist fighter running a campaign against income inequality. He's fighting to raise the minimum wage, get money out of politics, break up too big to fail banks and jail the Wall Street insiders who destroyed our economy.

Rick Weiland is running a winning campaign, but he needs our help to make sure every voter in South Dakota hears it.

Volunteer to help Rick Weiland beat Republican extremist Mike Rounds now.

Can't volunteer? Beat an anti-choice extremist by contributing $3 right now to send a progressive to the U.S. Senate.

As the former FEMA Regional Director and then State Director for the AARP, Rick knows what it means to lead and the work it takes to get the job done. So when Rick says he'll fight to expand Social Security and allow access to Medicare for All, he's got the track record to take that fight on and win.

When it comes to beating Wall Street in Washington, Elizabeth Warren can't do it alone. She needs allies in the Senate willing to stand with her, take on the tough fights, and never back down.

She needs Rick Weiland. That's why Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have each endorsed Rick and contributed to his campaign. Now it's our turn to back them up.

Contribute $3 to back-up Senators Warren and Sanders in sending a populist progressive to the U.S. Senate.

Working together, we will win this.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

stevenaxelrod Rick Weiland's campaign. I really like how he gets out there and talks with people and I believe, has either hit or will hit every town (with people) in South Dakota. This could be a "sleeper" race.

I remember when Paul Wellstone challenged powerful incumbent, Rudy Boschwitz back in 1990 for Boschwitz's Minnesota Senate seat. No Washington establishment "expert" took this race seriously and it was just  assumed that Boschwitz would comfortably retain his long held Senate seat. Wellstone was clearly the "underdog" with far less money, name recognition, etc. But what he did was continually drive his "rattle trap" bus around the state of Minnesota and probably spoke with every last person in the state when he finished (okay, I am exaggerating but Wellstone came close). But Paul Wellstone continually pressed the flesh and people really liked that.

On election day, Wellstone- the proverbial "David" , defeated "Goliath" . Again, what Rick Weiland is doing is spot on. Keep up the great work and to hell with the D.C. Democratic establishment who has written off his campaign. As a proud DFA member, I will contribute through them, to Rick's campaign or contribute directly.
