Once I started looking for a new computer, I noticed it. All the ads on my Daily Kos site suddenly were for Dell, HP and other computers. I bought a few programs, and the ads started to come from Adobe and various font publishers. Scroll down the site and you will see an ad for an athiest site, another thing that interests me in particular. It's pretty clear that DKos allows advertising directly targeted to where we go, and that it's been collected by Google and other companies that collect our cookies. Am I alone in feeling raped technologically?
I don't know the particulars. I don't know if DKos has no other options. I would love to subscribe and cut the ads out, but money's tight right now. I have subscribed in the past.
I really object to sites that do this. I object to browsers that do it, and am fully aware that sites may not be the culprit. But I feel that if Daily Kos has any ability to control the content of the advertising on this site, they should make it generic instead of this targeted crap that relies on what I feel is spying.
I love this site, am a Trusted User and have been here for a long time. Maybe I'm overreacting, and I'm sure many of you will disagree. But here it is for discussion.
1:11 PM PT: Wow, someone gave me an anonymous subscription. That's what I love about this site. Thank you, whoever you are.
