Target has announced that they will stop offering health insurance to part-time employees, saying that now that the Affordable Care Act is in place, its employees may actually benefit because the coverage would disqualify them from being able to receive government subsidies and that they will now be able to find a plan that suits them better. Read through the corporate bull - this is another corporation cutting costs at the expense of its employees, plain and simple. I am calling all readers of this to action - stop shopping at Target and show them that they will lose more in lost sales than they would by treating their employees like human beings.
If Target were really concerned for its employees, it would give them the option of keeping their employer-sponsored health coverage or taking a refund that they could use to shop on the open market. Let's be clear here. No one has forced Target to drop health coverage for their employees. Not the government, not Obama, not Karl Marx - no one. Target has taken the option away from their employees and issued a statement that makes it seem as though they are acting in the best interests of their employees (they aren't). I had already stopped shopping at Target because they opened their doors on Thanksgiving, taking their employees away from their families on the one day each year where we, as Americans, are supposed to be thankful for what we have rather than continue the rat race to acquire as much stuff as we can before we inevitably croak. This decision has greatly improved my financial security, as not setting foot in a Target meant my credit card information wasn't hacked (a situation that could have easily been avoided if they had any clue what they were doing). Now I'm asking all of you to join me in teaching Target and other retailers like them a lesson.
PLEASE JOIN ME IN MY MISSION TO TEACH TARGET AND OTHER RETAILERS THAT SLASHING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS AND TREATING THEIR WORKERS LIKE THINGS RATHER THAN PEOPLE WILL COST THEM MORE IN LOST SALES THAN THEY WILL GAIN IN SAVINGS BY REFUSING TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM ANY LONGER.
