Shayan Modarres, Democratic Candidate running in Florida's 10th Congressional District
Rep. Daniel Webster is most notable for being the one who defeated then-Rep. Alan Grayson for re-election in 2010.  Now of course Grayson is back in Congress in Florida's 9th Congressional District.

However, Congressman Webster only won re-election for his second term in Congress by just 3% points and his anti-Obamacare views have caused him serious problems in a recent town hall meeting in FL-10 as reported by fellow Kossack Heavy Mettle on Aug 16, 2013:

So perhaps Congressman Webster may be in a competitive race this time around and if Democratic Candidate Shayan Modarres becomes the Democratic Nominee, it will be even tougher for Webster because Modarres is well known for being apart of the legal team for Trayvon Martin's family in the case vs. George Zimmerman and that will for sure galvanize voters in FL-10 which includes a considerable part of Orlando and yes, you guessed it, Disneyworld and Universal Studios.

In case you are looking to meet and greet Modarres, he has a couple of events coming up this Friday and Saturday in Orlando:  One a happy hour on Friday, the other an appearance at the AIDS Walk in the city.  Details on the events are as follows:

As far as the motivation Shayan Modarres has for running for Congress in FL-10, it is clear the Trayvon Martin case he handled plays a big part in his decision to enter the race that also includes two additional Democratic Candidates Michael McKenna and Bill Ferree.

Attorney Shayann Modarres has declared that he’s running for Congress in Florida’s 10th District against incumbent Daniel Webster. This makes him the 3rd opponent in the contest and the 2nd Democrat setting up what should be an interesting primary.

In an email exchange, Modarres pointed out that he had worked as an attorney, on the legal team that represented the family of Trayvon Martin the last two years and organized a peaceful 2,000 person rally in Downtown Orlando over fair civil rights laws.

”Although fighting against injustice as a practicing attorney is deeply gratifying, the opportunity to draft and support fair laws to affect even greater change is more appealing. That’s why I’m running for congress.” he added

Now nothing is a guarantee for defeating Rep. Daniel Webster but on the other hand, Shayan Modarres has greater name recognition than McKenna or Ferree from what I've come to understand.  We'll see in the coming months how the campaign fairs out.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
