I have used this for some time now, it is an optimistic one:
"Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing." Arundhati RoyI have a problem because
1] Maybe there are no quiet days
2] I'm going deaf
3] She has stopped breathing.
I hope it is 1, 2 would be tragic for I love music but could cope, but 3 would be worst of all.
When climate change is treated as a political ping pong ball rather than a challenge that we all face, I can hear her choking.
When the hypocrisy coming out of the various power blocks about who is right when it comes to invading other countries, I hear her gagging.
When religion is used as a flail to justify discrimination, I hear her crying.
When I hear the rich whining about how unjust the world is and how they merit more, I share her shocked silence.
Perhaps I can no longer bear to listen just in case she is gone?
Just a thought before I close my eyes to sleep
