Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann, Mitch McConnell and payola?!? What's not to love?
As we learned
last summer, there are serious questions about whether or not Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's campaign manager played a role in an alleged payola scandal in which an Iowa State Senator was offered money to flip-flop from supporting Michele Bachmann's presidential campaign to supporting Ron Paul's.
Jesse Benton, who isn't just McConnell's campaign manager but is also the top aide to both Ron and Rand Paul, wrote in an email to one of the individuals involved in the scheme that "the window is sill [sic] open, but it will close in the next few days"—the window being some sort of offer from the Paul camp to Kent Sorenson, the state senator.
Benton has kept his lips shut about the whole thing, but today we're getting news that a former Bachmann aide is trying to keep the controversy alive, filing a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission asking the FEC to investigate the matter. No word yet on what will come out of that, but if the FEC decides to pursue the matter, Benton may finally have to explain what he was talking about in that email.
