November 5th 2014 - In what several months ago was thought inconceivable the republicans have suffered a huge defeat at the ballot box. Despite huge spending by some massively wealthy individuals enhanced by recent SCOTUS decisions America firmly rejected austerity and health care cuts and embraced a future of Hope.
It started when the true impacts of Obamacare began to surface. First a few anecdotal stories began to emerge of people, newly insured, receiving life saving medical intervention. Then there were hundreds and then there were thousands. Suddenly the republicans found themselves on the defensive trying to explain why they denied medicaid expansion in the red states and began to scramble to jump on board.
After Harry Reid's successful attacks on Mitch McConnell began to swing the polls in Kentucky the rest of the Democrats and progressives went on the offensive over healthcare, rebuilding America's infrastructure and creating jobs, fair taxes wherein the wealthy pay their fare share or at least as much as Ronald Reagan's bus driver and funding education. The positive message of the left for a future when we don't need to reduce ourselves to the lowest global level to compete but could instead lead the world with future technology, investment, education, renewable energy and the jobs this would bring began to firmly take hold.
Nothing could have been more surprising then the backlash against the massive spending of the likes of Sheldon Adelson, the Koch brothers and their ilk. When the democrats began to make an issue of the "Adelson primary" it was ignored by the media. When the democrats responded by a redoubled effort to point out the tax advantages purchased by "the coming Oligarchy" as they became to be known at the expense of the rest of us the message began to take hold. By election day the unbridled spending became a detriment to the republicans when simple and inexpensive responses to their propaganda made it apparent they cared more about their bottom lines the America's future.
Perhaps the most important factor in the swing of the electorate was the progressive and Democratic change from defense to offence. Following Harry Reid's successful lead against McConnel and the success of Obamacare Democratic candidates stopped making excuses and instead pointed out how republican policies cost lives, educations, research, the incomes of average workers and the future of America. The surge of the Democrats going on all media outlets and forcefully arguing for a positive, progressive and hopeful message with an increasingly optimistic political future destroyed "the coming Oligarchy" despite being massively outspent.
The Stock Market is expected to continue it's rally this morning with the expectation of increased economic activity from increased spending on infrastructure, high speed rail, renewable energy, education, healthcare and basic research. Warren Buffet said late last night that while he will be paying higher taxes to pay for the new investments in America he expects the impacts from this election to increase the value of Berkshire Hathaway far more and added "Like I have always said - never bet against America".
1:02 PM PT: Update - it appears Mitch McConnel is already facing defeat.
