Received this e-mail today from Natalie Tennant's (D. WV) U.S. Senate campaign:
Secretary of State candidate Natalie Tennant, 39, of Charleston speaks on the steps of the Capitol to kick off her campaign Wednesday, June 20, 2007, in Charleston, W.Va. Tennant said she will sign the Code of Fair Campaign Practices which is a voluntary bond between politicians and the public to run a clean campaign. (AP Photo/Jeff Gentner)
When you grow up on a farm with five brothers and a sister, you learn pretty quickly to work hard and play fair.

My sister and I were raised to believe we could do anything our brothers could, and my husband Erik and I have raised our daughter, Delaney, to embrace these same principles.

So the fact that women in West Virginia make 70 cents for every dollar paid to men goes against every value my mom and dad taught me.

Over the course of her lifetime, a West Virginia woman will earn $558,000 less than a male counterpart. That huge pay gap affects all of us.

If we want to get serious about our economy and ensuring that all West Virginia families have the chance to prosper, then we have to get serious about paycheck fairness.

That's why I'm joining with lawmakers across the country to demand that Congress do the right thing for all Americans by passing paycheck fairness immediately.

Click here to stand with me and tell Congress that West Virginia needs paycheck fairness and we need it now. Our families deserve a fair chance in today’s economy.

When you care as much about West Virginia as I do, you'll do whatever you can to improve our state’s economic outlook and ensure an equal playing field for all West Virginians.

Congress has made great strides for paycheck fairness in passing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, but there's still a long way to go.

It's time for Congress – and Congresswoman Capito – to step up and do right by West Virginia families. Please join me and thousands of others across the country in calling on Congress to pass paycheck fairness right now.

Tell Congress: Equal work deserves equal pay. It's time to pass paycheck fairness so all families have a fighting chance.

Thanks for standing up for West Virginia values.

- Natalie

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I'm still quite concerned that Nat is going nowhere against the piles of $$$ that SMC has available.

In scanning the WV news (regularly) I only see media outlets (print & web) promoting SMC and dumping on Nat.

It's funny, even with all that leverage, SMC's people shut off your ability to comment on her FB page if you post anything questioning, or negative to her 5 daily "wall updates".

One more reason I'd rather vote for "Bill the Cat" than SMC! Oh well, it's April, time for my monthly donation to Nat's campaign! :-)

You have your right to your opinion, I will grant you that, but do not denigrate my right to mine!
