Bottom Line First: $400.00 is our goal for this project. Well, actually less than that as there is a challenge at the end of the diary that will put a dent in the overall goal. Compared to most community fundraisers, $400.00 is a piece of cake pie. Now, on to the project description, photos of a few of the cards and ::drum roll:: the challenge.
Last year Sara R was inspired to put the DK Quilt Guild to work on a project to coincide with the annual Netroots Nation which was held in San Jose. The Guild hand made forty-seven quilts and delivered them, along with teddy bears and hand made keepsake gift cards to the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. Here you can view a
delivery diary with photos and links to even more photos. This year's NN14 in Detroit will see an even larger event from the Guild.
The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit has a a 65 bed nursing home with residents who richly deserve a surprise showering of gifts that are being hand made with love. Follow below to learn more about all the heartwarming goodness planned for these veterans.
Each resident will receive a bounty of gifts:
► a wheelchair or lap sized quilt made by members of the DK Quilt Guild
► a soft, cuddly teddy bear donated entirely (WoW) by joanbrooker
► a hand crocheted hat and/or scarf organized by broths and winifred3
► paperback books organized by Limelite on behalf of the Readers and Book Lovers group
► a phone card - more information TBA
► a handmade keepsake card designed and crafted by state of confusion
What a gracious and generous treasure trove - provided entirely by kossacks - in gratitude to those who served our country. A pause for applause to all those unselfishly involved!!
Here are some more details on the subject of this fundraiser - those stunning handmade cards...
As you can clearly see, these are not your standard off the rack, one size fits all generic greeting cards. It is evident the labor of love and incredible creativity that is involved in their making. state of confusion has invested a great deal of her time and energy in them and there is no way we could compensate her for that. This fundraiser of $400.00 is intended to cover the supplies needed to create all of the sixty-five cards for this project. I can just imagine how delighted and touched the patients will be when they receive a quilt to wrap themselves in, a teddy bear to cuddle, a soft scarf or hat to warm them, a phone card to stay in touch with loved ones, a few books to read and enjoy, all complete with one of these stunning cards which they can display as a reminder that they are loved and appreciated.
Below you will find a paypal address for Sara R so your donation is simply a couple of clicks away. If you prefer to send a check or money order you can kosmail Sara R for a mailing address. But before you scoot on down there to the paypal instructions, let me explain The Challenge I mentioned in the intro. ::let the drumroll begin:: For every "rec" this diary receives, I will donate one dollar up to $100.00. Soooo, drag out your sock puppets, pass the word to your peeps cause y'all need to spend my money! Just think, if we get all 100 recs, then the bottom line shrinks to a mere $300.00. WhOOt!! 0_0
As an added note, should we exceed our goal tonight, all monies above the goal will be applied to the phone card fundraiser which will be forthcoming.
