According to the following article, Mr. Marquez passed away at age 87. I think that "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the greatest books that I have had the pleasure to read. I salute you Mr. Marquez and wish you peace on your next journey.

Update:Thanks to the prompt attention of Mangrove Blues, I have corrected this post to properly reflect the author, "Mr. Marquez". Always did get low marks in "attention to detail."
Update on 4/26/2014, thanks to AnnArborDem:
His family name is Garcia Marquez, not Marquez (as (1+ / 0-)
previously pointed out by Mangrove Blues). The short form is Garcia, not Marquez. Let's honor him by learning his name and not calling him "Mr. Marquez."
