This is my first diary. So please be kind. It is probably messy. lol
I am writing in response to this diary about Rand Paul and the comments in it about how we need a populist candidate.
I do not think democrats will lose the next election to Rand Paul. However I do believe that Cory Booker is a populist candidate that could equal Rand Paul. I am a millenial, I am 32 and I am concerned that too many people my age admire people like Rand Paul and Gary Johnston and I think Cory Booker would appeal to them.
Cory Booker and Rand Paul are both against the drug war which is a huge issue with my generation since we grew up with the war on drugs being forced on us and anti-drug propaganda.
I have found that many libertarians also respect Cory Booker because of things like this: http://gawker.com/...
I would vote for Hillary and whoever ran as Democrat for president in 2016 but I believe Cory Booker is a great answer to Rand Paul if he were to run. I am simply responding to the discussion of populism and this problem of democrats not always having populist candidates. Thank you for reading this. :)
EDIT: I would like to emphasize that this diary is mostly me thinking in terms of a democratic candidate that would appeal to young voters in the way that Rand Paul has. I'm not arguing that he is the perfect liberal candidate, or that he has no wall street ties.
