Hahaha:
GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE (R-NJ): Believe me, the place [The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey] was in much worse shape when I got there.
And the level of transparency and professionalism and committees and otherwise has gotten significantly better over time, and so we're just going to continue to work at it.
Say what now? The Port Authority is in better shape today than it was before Christie became governor? I mean, for the past six months the biggest story in New Jersey has been the fact that the Christie administration manufactured a "traffic study" in order to carry out an act of political retribution against a mayor who refused to endorse his re-election. If that's better, I'd truly hate to see worse.
The thing that really gets me about this statement by Christie isn't just that it's patently absurd, it's that it also is a perfect example of how he likes to fling bull, because on the one hand, he's now trying to claim credit for supposedly making the Port Authority a better example of good government, but in January when he was denying any role in the lane closure scandal, Christie was telling anyone who would listen that he doesn't get into the details of what goes on at agencies like the Port Authority.
At one point Christie was able to sell his "I want it both ways" schtick because he could bully people with his lofty poll numbers. But that day has passed. Now he's just another bull-slinging hack trying claw his way up to higher office.
