Or so I am lead to believe and that minorities need no protection when a majority popular vote says there is no need to protect the minority concerned. This basically what SCOTUS is claiming in with gutting the Voters Rights act and the concept of Affirmative action.
Affirmative action benefited women greatly and finally we have a graduation rate the same as for men [based on population split].
The first affirmative-action measure in America was an executive order signed by President Kennedy in 1961 requiring that federal contractors “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin.” In 1967, President Johnson amended this, and a subsequent measure included sex, recognizing that women also faced many discriminatory barriers and hurdles to equal opportunity.
This can be regarded as a success for affirmative action.
As any good Republican will tell you that there is no War On Women although every State House that is Republican controlled indicates otherwise. Assaulting of women with a vaginal probe is totally acceptable, contraception by aspirin, equal pay means you will fail in finding a husband, paying more for health care normal and being obedient is a norm.
Of course we all know racism is so over and the birther/tea party movement had nothing at all to do with the color of the Presidents skin. The kid glove treatment of these movements by both the GOP and the MSM is telling.
Of course discrimination against the LGBT is over as can be seen from progressive legislation in Arizona and Mississippi.
The onus is now totally in the hands of those being discriminated against to prove the discrimination such as equal pay or that your application was refused because of race, gender, sexuality. As we all know there are plenty of soft reasoning to get around why the choice was made, however sometimes the results are clear.
Three years after the court allowed race-based admissions, Michigan voters blocked them at state schools through a ballot initiative. The result is fewer black students crisscrossing the Diag, the wide space that cuts through the heart of the university’s Ann Arbor campus. Black enrollment is down about 30 percent at the undergraduate and law schools.
The reality of today is that racists, misogynists and homophobes have found more intelligent ways of operating rather than by just stating clearly their thinly veiled bigotry. As
Justice Sonia Sotomayor clearly stated
"In my colleagues' view, examining the racial impact of legislation only perpetuates racial discrimination," Sotomayor added. "This refusal to accept the stark reality that race matters is regrettable. As members of the judiciary tasked with intervening to carry out the guarantee of equal protection, we ought not sit back and wish away, rather than confront, the racial inequality that exists in our society."
Some even believe that affirmative action has handicapped the majority and even resulted in
"whites" are being discriminated against. Really? Look around, seriously, really? It's the erosion of the ingrained culture of privilege that drives these attitudes, the reality is different. Just look at the make up of congress and even the state houses and that tells you all you need to know about just how equal our society is in fact. Look at the boardrooms across the nation if you think the private sector is better.
You will know when discrimination is over, it will be as clear as the light of day. Also the gains that have been made thus far can be swiftly reversed as has been shown when the GOP gains control at any level, especially our highest court. Look at the accumulation and income inequality, who comes out of it best and it has nothing to do with averages.
4:31 AM PT: Oh and you know its over when
Yes, he praised slavery. And when given the opportunity to backpedal, he doubled down.
You may think that this does not occur often. You would be wrong. Here are a few other prominent conservatives who have suggested slavery was not all that bad.
