Listening to the conservative arguments against raising the ludicrously low minimum wage reminds me of Marie Antoinette-type dismissiveness- although sure, she was more sympathetic as played by Kirsten Dunst and apparently the famous quote is an urban myth, but the contrast between pampered royals and starving peasants is not that far from the lunacy of CEO salaries in the billions while their minions have to work 2 or 3 fulltime jobs just to survive. Not to mention the Walmart heiress who spent $1 billion to endow an art museum because she said "she wanted to make a difference" - as Bill Maher ranted, "How about giving your employees a raise, you deluded nitwit?"
Since obscenely wealthy people and overpaid CEOs won't change on their own - and the market isn't working its imaginary magic - it's up to the federal government to step in. So bravo to President Obama for continuing to make the case for a long-overdue raise, and here's a musical salute to his effort: "The $10.10 Blues"
