Sometimes it hurts to have Dianne Feinstein as one of my Senators. After two different versions of CISPA (Cybersecurity Information Sharing and Protection Act) failed to get signed into law, she's back with a third attempt, as a co-author of the bill with Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA).
It still allows for intelligence agencies to collect your Internet metadata and share it without a warrant. It still gives companies cover to share information they aren't required to, and shields them for customer lawsuits over this. It creates new security backdoors to further erode the trust of international companies dealing with United States technology firms.
This is an early draft of the bill, and there's still time to stop it. But let me very clear: it needs to be stopped. Even if you trust President Obama's administration with the power this bill gives, he's not the last President we're going to have.
More info about older versions of the bill can be found at Mother Jones as well.
