Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

    because Freedom in the USA.
May Day was established to celebrate the executed Haymarket martyrs fighting the 8 hour day in 1886.
Can't conservatives at least celebrate the executions?

In 1921, following the Russian Revolution of 1917, May 1 was promoted as "Americanization Day" by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and other groups in opposition to communism. It became an annual event, sometimes featuring large rallies. In 1949, Americanization Day was renamed to Loyalty Day. In 1958, the U.S. Congress declared Loyalty Day, the U.S. recognition of May 1, a national holiday; that same year, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 Law Day as well.
lmfao "Loyalty Day" good lord that is right outta Verhoeven's adaptation of Starship Troopers

tax sale of the Beaver County widow's home for a $6 tax bill seems to indicate that she paid the tax bill six days late and as a result a "late fee" was added.  She contends that she paid the taxes, but was not aware of the extra late fee.

It sounds plausible to me because I've had a similar experience with my sewage bill.  Shortly after moving into my home almost seven years ago I received a bill that included a late fee.  I contacted them and was told that the fee was accessed because the prior payment was paid after the deadline.  I argued that I didn't own the property during the time covered by the service.  They didn't care.  They just wanted their money.  Because the late fee was only a couple of dollars, I paid it to eliminate the problem, but municipal utilities and tax authorities here in western PA are notorious for making a big deal over these things.  It's the same everywhere.  If you owe a few hundred dollars they'll chase you to the ends of the earth.  If you owe a million, you're in a position to negotiate a settlement.

BTW Aliquippa is pronounced Ali Kwipa.
