Received this e-mail today from Rep. Gary Peters' (D. MI) U.S. Senate campaign:
I believe in the Michigan values I was raised with and that I share with families all across our state - equal work should merit equal pay.
But unfortunately, in Michigan, women are still earning less than men. Yet over and over again, national Republicans, special interests, and my opponent have refused to face the facts and denied that there is a problem.
As the father of two daughters, I want to make sure that all children have the opportunities necessary to pursue their dreams. And I find it offensive that in 2014, we still operate under a system that consistently short-changes women’s contributions in the workplace.
If you agree, sign my petition and let Congress know that it’s time to give women equal pay for equal work.

Equal pay is something that all Michiganders - women, men, and families – care about, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it’s good for our economy.
Women make up nearly half of the workforce. And in 40 percent of American Households with children they are the sole or primary breadwinners. Paying women their fair share helps women provide for their children and their family, and pumps money into our local communities.
That’s why I am proud to have supported common-sense solutions like The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and The Paycheck Fairness Act that tackle unfair pay discrimination based on gender.
But extreme Republicans in Congress continue to block passage of critical legislation to level the economic playing field for women.
This is wrong, and I need you to help me keep fighting for equal pay for women. Click here to add your voice to mine and sign the petition.

Women have come a long way in the fight for equal pay, but there is still much work to be done. Thank you for standing with me on this important issue for Michigan women and Michigan families.
Gary
