Yeah, there's a reason. But it has nothing to do with public sentiment.

That 35-seat Republican majority came despite receiving 1.4 million fewer votes than the Democrats. That's a pretty impressive, and aggressive gerrymander.
So yes, Republicans have a majority for a reason, but it's not because more people love them. It's because they manipulated the levers of the redistricting process to cede themselves an undemocratic advantage. It works! So good for them. But Gowdy will have to look elsewhere if he wants the moral high ground.
