John Stewart's recent skit on Fox "news' (sic) outrage on Benghazi, while rightly pointing out Fox's hypocritical false outrage, ultimately does it's viewers a disservice by promoting the false narrative propagated by Fox "news" (sic) that Benghazi was a result of a terrorist organization's planned attack and that the Obama administration cynically pushed false talking points downplaying this fact. From The stewart piece...
Well, now it looks like this Ben Rhodes, a White House national security and communications aide, did add to these talking points, emphasizing that the protests surrounding the Benghazi violence were not coordinated by terrorists, but were instead somehow related to a provocative anti-Muslim video that had caused demonstrations in other countries
Stewart- after a insipid Joke focusing on Snow Dogs, goes on to say
I will say this. From that e-mail, it sounds like the White House had politics and elections on their mind when they sent Susan Rice to the Sunday shows. It's deplorable.
Really John? Deplorable. Well I guess it does SOUND like that, if you believe the Fox news narrative. Fortunately someone who is an actual journalist looked into this and - hey, guess what ... That FOX Narrative about doctored talking points (that you seem so willing to believe) is BULLSHIT and SHAME ON YOU for buying into it-
follow after the fold
As the New York Times points out in their actual reporting on Benghazi
http://www.nytimes.com/...
Months of investigation by The New York Times, centered on extensive interviews with Libyans in Benghazi who had direct knowledge of the attack there and its context, turned up no evidence that Al Qaeda or other international terrorist groups had any role in the assault.

contrary to claims by some members of Congress, it (the Benghazi attack) was fueled in large part by anger at an American-made video denigrating Islam.
Mr Stewart- if as the New York times asserts, the events of Benghazi largely unfolded EXACTLY as the Obama administration initially suggested, how was their handling of the talking points deplorable? I guess if Mr Stewart chooses to believe the Fox "News" (sic) narrative over the investigative reporting done by the NY Times, that's his prerogative, but it seems his own climb up bullshit mountain in the name of false equivalency shows a hypocrisy of his own
Stewart's claim about Fox News hypocrisy may score points with some on the left ( and thanks to this article - which is largely uncritical of Stewart, but did give me the quotes from the show )

However, Stewart is mostly lazily aping the Fox "news" (sic) narrative of the Obama administration's handling of Benghazi when making points about Fox's Hypocrisy.
The real story is not that Fox is Hypocritical, but they are actively pushing a lie about the events surrounding Benghazi- and Now Stewart too has been unwittingly duped in to pushing that same lie
