Dear Dailykos Family,
This is one of those "please support my cause" diaries - but I promise it is a good one.
I have been around these parts for quite a while and while not commenting quite as much, I do read the website almost every day. I haven't made a plea for support before, so I hope you will indulge this one. If you have ever wanted to say you support the arts, now is your chance!
While this is not a political cause, I do believe that Arts and Arts Education plays a huge role in children's lives and in a civilized society. Whenever someone tells me about a child they know who is acting out or is depressed or doesn't seem to fit in - I tell them to get that child to the nearest theater. Kids learn so much being on stage or behind the scenes - team work, responsibility, public speaking, set building, costumes, design - you name it. Plus, the sense of belonging and being needed can really turn a troubled kid around. More below the orange thingy..
As many of you may know, my talented daughter is an actress in Washington, DC (that is her in the poster!). Currently she is playing Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Fords Theater. She is also a teaching artist for Fords Theater and Shakespeare Theater.
Her latest and most ambitious project is writing, producing and directing a musical. As a young performer and musician herself, she only recently found out that many young performers in the past have died at the age of 27 before fulfilling all of their promise. It struck her deeply (since she is turning 27 this year) and she began working on a way to bring her thoughts and feelings about it to the stage in the form of a musical.
Her production has been accepted to be performed at the Capital Fringe Festival and auditions are being held this week. She is very nervous but excited to take this step into directing.
A show, even a small one, takes money to produce. Mom and Dad will be picking up the slack - but she is looking for small donations to fund the show. This is where you come in.
She is using KickStarter and hopes to raise $3,000. She has a good start - but I thought I would help out by promoting it to the Dailykos Community.
Your name will be in the program as a supporter! Thank you in advance and see you at the theater!
