We teach our students to support their points with evidence, preferably with quotes/ statistics.  We suggest having at least 3.  In just the last few weeks, we have been introduced to:

1. Loren Parks
2. Donald Sterling
3. Cliven Bundy.

Thesis:  White, male privilege exists.

1.  OR Zillionaire, Loren Parks :  The let me tell you "Why Women are Fat" Guy

Meet the Sex Hypnotherapist Helping the GOP Retake the Senate

Parks says some women grow fat so they won't be tempted to cheat on their husbands. In another, he claims he can help heal the trauma of rape and incest victims, but not "if you're getting mileage out of it, if you're getting status, satisfaction from telling your story again and again."
Net Worth $14.4 billion

2. The Clipper Billionaire, Donald Sterling:  The let me tell you "Not to bring them to my game" Guy

“The girl is black. I like her. I’m jealous that she’s with other black guys. I want her. So what the hell, can’t I in private tell her, you know, ‘I don’t want you to be with anybody’?” the man purported to be Sterling says in the new tape, according to RadarOnline.

“I’m trying to have sex with her. I’m trying to play with her,” the man also says. “You know, if you (are trying) to have sex with a girl and you’re talking with her privately, you don’t think anybody’s there. You may say anything in the world. What difference does it make?

And, this was his attempt at a positive spin.

Net Worth 1.9 Billion

3.  Clive Bundy the Welfare Rancher Millionaire:  The "I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro" Guy

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

Net Worth ?  Beats me, but "Milloinaire Cliven Bundy" get 181,000 results.

I have 3 degrees, been frequently told I'm pretty smart, and I'm already sweating making it to payday ... next week!  Yet, these 3 dumb clucks are millionaires/billionaires. The system has gotta be rigged. White male privilege exists.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Be careful not to smear all white males (7+ / 0-)

with the actions of these three ass wipes.

As a white male, I agree white male privilege exists.  It is a systematic and endemic part of our society - I can get away with things African Americans can't.  I probably am where I am in part because I am a white male.  There is a very good chance I am paid more than some of my female coworkers.  I get it.

The ass holes you exhibit are not using privilege, they are being misogynistic racists.  There is a big difference between a white male racist and privilege.  It may be a fine gray area continuum between the two, and it may be the racism and misogyny are extremes of privilege.

But please, don't use those as examples.

Privilege really should be rights for everyone.  I should be able to expect the same respect and treatment as I give to others.

this social "leg up" instead of having GWB Syndrome of being born on third and thinking they hit a triple.

Years ago, a male med student approached my wife and a friend and told them "You should not be in med school; you took my buddy's slot"  (the guy was moaning to everyone how African Americans and women had "taken" slots from white males)

My wife's friend replied, "I had higher MCATs than you, a higher GPA, and a higher class rank.  In addition, I earned an MS waiting to get into med school while you went from college straight to med school.  If someone stole your buddy's slot, it was you since I am much better qualified than you are"

He's almost certainly a multimillionaire, given that the market value of the 900 head of cattle he was grazing on federal land happens to be approximately $1 million, and that he owns 160 acres of land outright on top of that.

mother cows and calves?  . Of course that depends upon when the cows calved. I saw some  sleek  cows on one video

My BIL sold a  yearling  steer calf for $1100 last week. Cattle prices are really up here.

I think you are pretty close on the price and maybe a little low. And it really irritates me to no end that someone like that cheat can be sitting on those kinds of assets. I hope the government is slowly and surely stripping him of his property.....

Cattle usually run about $600-$800 for a yearling but I have bought breeding stock for $100/head in a bad year.  I understand the same yearling can bring up to $1200 as Western ranchers had flooded the market, trying to pare down herds due to drouth some years back and are now in a rebuilding phase where they are retaining stock for breeding that they would have once sold.

Rebuilding a herd can take 3-5 years, depending on several factors

That is why the article by a college freshman was so laughable.  While it is true his parents and grandparents achieved great things in escaping Hitler's Germany, their accomplishments are not his.  In the same situation, he may have well perished as luck was also a factor.

However I find my kids are prone to accept credit for my accomplishments, modest as they may be.  I tell my kids that if I accomplished anything, it is because those before me left me something to work with.  While it is easier to multiply something when you have 100, you can still multiply even with 2.  The trick is to multiply when you start with 0.  The people who start with nothing and work it to into something are the ones who get my admiration

  •  Sterling is actually an interesting example... (0+ / 0-)

    for your thesis.

Don Sterling is Jewish.  Do Jews benefits from White Privilege??  If one goes by the stereotype of Jewish people(they're rich!), then yes.  Given their actual history though, it is obvious that they do not.

Now, here is where it gets interesting... Don Sterling was born Donald Tokowitz.  He changed the name in 1959.  One of the reasons he gave for the name-change was he believed it would have financial benefits.

So, does White Privilege exist?  Don Sterling seems to think so, at least so much as he thought he would be more succesful if people thought he was White instead of Jewish.
