DailyKos has over the years gone through many different incarnations to make the site more accessible to casual surfers and hardcore users alike. I'm one of the few who adored the recently recommended list (and still think it should be brought in as an addition to the recent list) but was not terribly upset when the community said it should go the way of the dodo. Not everything works. Elfling has been fantastic in designing the bot remover and our robot overlords have for the most part got things right when it comes to instant bojo and hiding spam.
However - and this is a big however.

This is just a small sample from the Hidden comment section that I cut and paste. It looks like this and worse on a daily basis. In fact it can be argued that because the spam is not instantly deleted, but hidden - it helps achieve what the spammers want and get paid to do by drawing clicks or eyes to their garbage. This is a crappy way to continue and Hiddens should be a way to hide commentary from a discussion instead of a spam-destructo method.
My solution to this is bring back the 1 day commenting period. The site was spam free and better off because of it. Hell - I loved that you had to register and then wait a week before you could post a diary. I understand that may seem "restrictive" now to Kos in this age of instant everything (except social solutions or real policy fixes) but the quality of the content and the quality of the community go up when we place rather mild restrictions on participation. If you do not have the patience to wait one day to comment on a blog then I don't think you will have much patience to stick around. If this site is about driving up clicks - sure. Keep all the spam. But every day valid diaries that people often times put hours into writing are pushed off the recent list because of spam.
I'm not the first to say this. I won't be the last. There are a ton of pressing problems in the world that we give attention to and deal with. This is small, but as a community please bring back the 1 day waiting period for commenting. It will save people the grief of not watching their hard work scroll off because of candy crushers, rock crushers, internet get rich schemes and all that crap. Certainly it would make our resident elfs job easier.
What say you Dailykos? Yea? Nea? Meh?
