"Hoisting ourselves by our own petard"
So how dysfunctional is the GOP?
This dysfunctional:
Boehner’s calculation [in creating the #Benghazi committee] was, in part, political, according to one House Republican aide. The Speaker was looking to mollify the Tea Party faction of his caucus who were upset with him about a range of issues, including the federal budget and immigration reform.
“There is a whole combination of factors here,” this aide said. “You have the email. But remember Boehner has also gotten a lot of resistance from House Republicans on immigration. He wanted to turn the page on this.”
According to the report, authored by Eli Lake of The Daily Beast, several top Republicans are actually secretly worried that the #Benghazi panel will prove to be a political nightmare, exposing Republicans as "a bunch of tin-hatted obsessives." That's a pretty reasonable assessment, but here's the thing: None of those Republicans actually voted against creating the committee. So who's worse? The deranged partisan Republican who believes the #Benghazi conspiracy theories are true ... or the craven partisan hacks who know they are false but are too scared to raise their voice in protest?
