Look, in 50-100 years there will be a crisis, when seas raise to a point that cannot be ignored in some major cities. At that point, the electorate will turn to one of the political parties to get something done.
I am remembering Winston Churchill, who wrote about and campaigned about how dangerous Hilter and the Nazis were to England, and was ignored in the 1930s up until the war broke out. When the British were defeated and had to evacuate at Dunkirk, the King turned to Churchill to lead the country.
Obama should start a set of measures - commission some studies, push a bill to build infrastructure that will be needed to build dikes quickly, etc. The Republicans will howl like crazy, and be on the record for the next N years as opposing any climate accommodation measures.
When the crisis comes, the Democrats will be who the electorate turn to, which they should be, because Democrats believe in the people power organized by the government to solve major problems.
Time for some government action on the accommodation side...
