Corrections, additions, changes, and clarifications are edited-in as promptly as circumstances allow. Kosmail links, information, and questions to METTLE FATIGUE
A DK group publishing diaries on a specific topic can be hard to find without knowing in advance its name, link, or tags. And valuable diaries are often published without the attention they deserve when authors don't know/haven't found groups of their focus for wider readership. This directory of links is a longterm DK reference project to foster mutual-benefit interaction among these groups and series, and with the overall DK community, to help kosak readers and writers connect with health-medical information and groups valuable to them. Groups & series concerned with Daily-Living-With-It health-medical and related topics are in the first list below, and in the second one lists Groups & Series Writing on Public Policy, Political, Professional, News, Morale-Support and Helping Efforts, including environment/pollution, poverty, homelessness, hunger, minority & women's rights, etc. (Pootie diaries are included because humor and animals are therapeutic.)

Your hotlisting, blogrolling, & link-sharing helps kosaks find the groups they need.

KosAbility is a Sunday 4PM leftkost/7PM east volunteer diarist community of, by & for people living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues. Our use of disability includes temporary as well as permanent health/medical conditions — from small, gnawing problems to major, life- threatening ones. Our use of love someone extends to cherished members of other species.

Our discussions are open threads in the context of this community. Feel free to comment on the diary topic, ask questions of the diarist or to everyone generally, share something you've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about your situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered. If you're interested in contributing a diary, contact the group leadership or individual admins there.

Some groups and series in these 2 lists are no longer active but included because their archived diaries are a valuable resource. All group/series titles are underlined; active groups and series are bolded.

DK groups are online publishing organizations owned and operated by their administrators (think "newspaper/magazine owner/publisher"). Editors handle some of the necessary tasks, but only admins can "hire" and "fire" (add new members/"contributors", promote contributors to editor and editors to administrator, remove/demote members) and other executive operations. The diary list (posting history) access link is information-rich for how recently/often/actively the group publishes. However, administrators and groups have no duty to sustain operations indefinitely — running a group can be very tough volunteerism, especially over the long haul, and some groups in DK are founded for specific temporary purposes and cease operations afterward. Groups from which all admins leave can't add or promote members, and if all editors leave the group can't publish.

Above the diaries, the MEMBERS link gives the list of admins, editors, and contributors. A kosmail-to-group —asking to join it, requesting diary republication, inviting shared activity, etc.— goes only to admins and eds without putting a New Message alert at the MESSAGES line in anyone's WELCOME BACK box; so, they may not see it timely. Try kosmailing to specific active admins or eds (check how recently their profiles show comments or diaries). If the group has no active admin, an option may be to contact remaining members and other interested kogs about creating a new group. But remember: solid organizational work, especially outreach is vital: many DK groups of all kinds never get off the ground or crash and burn soon after take-off unless word of their existence is well spread by members and friends blogrolling and hotlisting it, hunting for groups with compatible interests to request republishing your founding diary (stating your group's scope, aims, discussion/meeting schedule, etc...which should be in your group's profile statement, too), instituting cooperation with other kogs and groups of related interests, etc. This August 2014 compilation is good guidance for novice admins and editors. New Diarists is the basic resource. To be respectful of "safe-place" groups, permission was asked and received for their inclusion.

Note that the fact something is discussed in literature of health or allied sciences literature does not automatically mean it needs medicalizing into a narrow popular idea of normalness: difference and diversity among human beings increase the perspectives and creativity that solve the world's problems, if we treat each other with respect. And some facts of life (e.g., advanced age, gender) are too often so stereotyped that medical "care" carpet-bombing everyone in the stereotype often misses and worsens individual health issues — genomics and epigenetics increasing prove that what helps one person may harm another. All science is work in progress. The more we learn and understand about ourselves and others, without labels or stereotypes, the better our health as individuals and as a society.

It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. Lyme Disease Awareness Diary List

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Lyme is the most prevalent vector-borne disease and one of the fastest spreading diseases throughout the United States, and the subjects of diagnosis and treatment of Lyme are politically-charged. This series of diaries is designed to provide information to the Daily Kos community both for Lyme disease prevention and for those Kossacks living with Lyme. Because the disease is often missed by physicians, these diaries may assist an individual or two in pursuing testing which might otherwise have been missed. The Lyme Disease Awareness series is eclectic, including personal statements, informational pieces about the science of Lyme, and calls to action for community and political advocacy. We hope you'll all join us in learning about this rampant disease and the medical/financial/political morass in which Lyme patients find themselves.

Mindful of the controversies endemic to cancer prevention and treatment, we ask that both diarists and commenters keep an open mind regarding strategies for surviving cancer, whether based in traditional, Eastern, Western, allopathic or other medical practices. This is a club no one wants to join, in truth, and compassion will help us make it through the challenge together."

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
